Biodegradable Plastics
One sustainability initiative that seems easy for people to get behind is the need to do something about plastic. Recycling is considered as one solution, but most plastic that is used never gets recycled. Where does it go? According to the Ocean Conservancy, microplastics have been found in every marine habitat where scientists have looked. The ingestion of microplastics by animals has been associated with negative health outcomes including reduced food consumption, impaired growth and behavior, decreased reproductive output, altered gene expression and damage to cells and DNA.
Our guest today is Bob Hawkinson. He is a local entreprueuer who saw the amount of plastic produced by the industry that he was in, and set out to develop a solution. We'll speak with him about that journey, and about his company, Recede Bioplastics.
